Five Future Tech Trends to Watch for in 2017

With 2017 now looming right around the corner, we can put 2016 behind us and focus on emerging technology and trends that 2017 potentially has to offer.

These following five technology trends will be strategic for most organizations in the coming 2017. These tech trends are defined as important due to their disruptive potential that is just starting to break out of an emerging state and into a much broader impact on technology. The rapidly growing state of these topics is also important to note and should be carefully watched in the new coming year.

1. Intelligent Applications
Intelligent applications like VPAs perform some of the functions of a human assistant, resulting in making daily tasks easier and its users more effective in daily life. Other intelligent apps like virtual customer assistants (VCAs) are more specialized for tasks in other areas such and sales and customer service. Additionally, there is technology built specifically to enhance intelligent apps, such as the Amazon Echo. These intelligent apps present the potential to gratefully transform the nature of work and structure in the workplace.

2. AI and Advanced Machine Learning
Artificial intelligence and advanced machine learning are composed of several technologies and techniques such as deep learning, neural networks and natural-language processing(NLP). The more advanced techniques advance beyond traditional rule-based algorithms to generate systems that understand, learn, predict, adapt and possibly operate autonomously.

3. Smart Technology
Smart technology actually refers to physical things that advance beyond the execution of standard, rigid programming models. Their exploit applied artificial intelligence and machine learning to deliver smarter behaviors and interact more naturally with their own surroundings. As smart technology such as drones, self-driving vehicles, and smart home appliances permeate the environment, predictions are being made that these intelligent things will move forward to a more collaborative intelligent things model.

4. Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality
Both virtual reality(VR) and augmented reality(AR) are transforming the way people interact with one another and with software systems. VR and AR capabilities will merge with the digital mesh to form a more seamless system of devices capable of orchestrating a flow of information that comes to the user as hyper-personalized and relevant. The integration across multiple mobile, wearable, Internet of Things (IoT) and sensor-rich environments will extend immersive apps beyond isolated and single-person experiences.

5. Digital Twin
A digital twin is a dynamic software model of a physical thing or system that relies on sensor data to understand its state, respond to changes, improve operations and add overall value. Digital twins include a combination of metadata, condition or state, event data and analytics. Organizations can use digital twins to proactively repair and plan for equipment service, plan out manufacturing processes, operate factories and perform enhanced product development. As such, digital twins will eventually become proxies for the combination of skilled workers and traditional monitoring devices and controls.

All of these mentioned topics in tech should be closely watched in 2017. Technology is always advancing, but these are some of the most important and potentially overall beneficial.
