The popular movement of virtual reality gives a user a recreation of an experience through a computer-simulated reality. Oculus, which provides such technology with Samsung Gear VR headgear, says they want to let a user experience anything they want through the power of virtual reality.
Now Samsung is partnering with Six Flags Entertainment Corporation to bring the virtual reality environment to nine of its theme parks. Six of the roller coaster rides will be on New Revolution Virtual Reality rides, while the other three will be Superman coasters.
When riders take on the Superman Virtual Reality Coasters, they will arrive in Metropolis when they put on the headsets. Their tour guides of Metropolis are from Lex Corp Sky Tours, and riders will quickly encounter Lex Luthor and his anti-gravity gun, along with his army of Lexbots.
The press release says that Superman destroys the anti-gravity gun, and everything Lex Luthor hit begins to fall. So does the ride, as the roller coaster takes its first big drop. The battle continues through more loops, twists and turns, until Superman is victorious before the ride returns to the station. The Superman coasters will open at:
1.) Superman Krypton Coaster, Six Flags Fiesta Texas
2.) Superman The Ride, Six Flags New England
3.) Superman Ride of Steel, Six Flags America in Maryland
In the New Revolution Experience, riders will be trying to save the planet earth from aliens. A Samsung news release explains that riders/jet pilots will see aircraft in an underground bunker as part of their new reality. As the aircraft begins its ascent, riders use interactive gameplay technology to fire at the aircraft. This is the world’s first ever such technology on a roller coaster.
When the coaster comes to its first drop, riders will realize they are at the top of a skyscraper and heading straight down. Riders will see the mother ship hovering above as they chase the aircraft. Their assignment is to destroy the mother ship, which is protected by drones. The New Revolution will be a featured attraction at:
1.) Shock Wave, Six Flags Over Texas
2.) Dare Devil Dive, Six Flags Over Georgia
3.) The New Revolution, Six Flags Magic Mountain
4.) Ninja, Six Flags St. Louis
5.) Steamin’ Demon, The Great Escape in Lake George
6.) Goliath at La Ronde, Montreal
Samsung’s Gear VR headset provides the tour for virtual reality riders. For the inexperienced rider, the headgear is secured with a strap around the head, another over the head, a chinstrap and a safety lanyard. The VR experience is not expected to cause nausea, and riders 12 and under must meet height requirements.
The headset offers high-resolution images and 360-degree content to complete the experience. The gear works with the Samsung’ Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+ and Note5.
Samsung Electronics America has headquarters in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, but there is no word of the Jackson Six Flags Great Adventure getting the virtual reality environment.
