The 5 Steps to Securing Your Small Business Cloud Storage

Check on what access your provider grants itself to your data and review their security features. You should watch out for any warning signs such as encryption of data at rest or unauthorized accessing of data at the provider’s own leisure. For the safety of your data, you should divert away from any providers that freely grant themselves access to your data or do not take Cloud security seriously enough to explain exactly how they protect your data.

4. Thoroughly audit all files.
Be sure to carry out a review of all files you have stored in the Cloud. If there are any discrepancies, check the backups of these files. If your service provider has unlimited access to the files in your Cloud, ensure none of your files violates their terms of service as they can potentially delete any files they deem as a violation. If you’re very concerned this may happen, you can always back up any specific data locally.

5. Utilize multiple providers.
For more certain and more reliable protection, you could spread your data across several Cloud services. This is beneficial in the case of one provider being hacked and the data being compromised, since any files you have stored away will be safe with the other provider. Keeping that in mind, any of your most sensitive or important information should be stored with the most secure and reliable Cloud service on the market.
